NCS is pleased to announce the continuation of our new Trainee Webinar Series. This live webinar series aims to help prepare all neurocritical care providers - from APPs to pharmacists to physicians - for the transition to independent practice.

Every other month we will invite various guest speakers and panelists to address common issues within critical care practice, along with strategies to manage them.

Our next webinar series is on Billing and Coding. Goals for this session is to understand principles of billing, coding, and reimbursement (e.g., CPT codes, ICD codes, HCPC for supplies/DME and procedures), especially in critical care. The session will define and list payment methodologies and systems (e.g., capitation, prospective payment systems, RBRVS, MS-DRGs). Lastly, we will identify the components of the Code of Ethics, Standards of Ethical Coding, laws and regulations that pertains to billing and reimbursement.

Ryan Hakimi, DO, MS, NVS, RPNI, CPB, FNCS, FCCM

Ryan Hakimi, DO, MS, NVS, RPNI, CPB, FNCS, FCCM is the Director, Neuro ICU and Transcranial Doppler Ultrasound Services at Prisma Health-Upstate in Greenville, South Carolina. He is a Professor in the Department of Medicine (Neurology) at the University of South Carolina-Greenville School of Medicine. Previously, he was the founding Medical Director of the OU Medical Center Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit at the University of Oklahoma, where he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology. He was a United States Department of Energy Applied Health Physics Fellow, graduated from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his medicine internship and neurology residency at Michigan State University. He completed a two-year fellowship in neurocritical care and stroke at Duke University Medical Center. He is board certified in Neurology, Neurocritical Care, Neurosonology (RPNI), and as a Neurovascular Specialist (NVS). He was the first fellowship trained DO neurointensivist and the first DO to be designated Fellow of Neurocritical Care Society. He is a Certified Professional Biller (CPB) and is Certified in Advanced Neurology and Neurosurgery Coding by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
Marc Alain Babi, MD

Dr. Marc Alain Babi is a Clinical Associate Professor and serves as the Cleveland Clinic Florida Region Chief of Neurocritical Care, Director of Neurology at the Cleveland Clinic and Cleveland Clinic Martin Health and the Co-Director of the Stroke Center at the Cleveland Clinic Tradition Medical Center. He serves on numerous administrative and leadership committees throughout the Cleveland Clinic Florida Region. Dr. Babi focuses his practice in the specialized field of neuro-critical care and the management of critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients.
Dr Babi is a board-certified neuro-intensivist (ABPN and UCNS) and board-certified neurologist (ABPN). He completed his undergraduate and subsequent medical training (M.D) at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar and New York; residency training in neurology at the University of Vermont, where he also served as chief resident; and neurocritical care fellowship training at Duke University Medical Center, where he also served as chief fellow.
Previously, Dr. Babi was appointed at the University of Florida (UF) from 2017 to 2022 where he served as the neurocritical care fellowship director, neurology residency associate director, and neurology clerkship associate director. While at UF, Dr Babi served on numerous departmental, hospital and institutional administrative, educational and leadership committees, as well as national committees related to neuro critical care and critical care medicine.
Dr. Babi is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, such as most recently, the 2022 American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Residency-Fellowship Director Award, Alpha-Omega-Alpha Honor Society Award, AAN Award and UF College of Medicine Exemplary Teacher Award in 2021 and 2019. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Neurocritical Care Society, the American Heart/Stroke Association and Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Dr Babi’s research interests include curriculum development, clinical education, critical care simulation, systems of care in the ICU and clinical trials pertaining to intracerebral hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage and is the recipient of prior grants, including NIH Funding.
Matthew Vibbert, MD

Matthew Vibbert, MD is an associate professor of neurology and neurologic surgery at the Sidney Kimmel College of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He has worked as a neurointensivist at Thomas Jefferson University hospital since 2010 and serves as the Director of Neuroscience Critical Care. He was the Neurocritical Care Fellowship Director from 2017 until 2021.

Dr. Vibbert attended medical school at Tulane University where he also completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Neurology. He completed fellowship training in neurologic critical care at Columbia University before joining the faculty at Thomas Jefferson.

Dr. Vibbert’s academic interests include systematic neuroprognostication following cardiac arrest, quality improvement in neurocritical care, and the use of telepresence in delivery of specialized neurologic care.
