This third session will be geared to assist not only exam
takers but also practicing bridge engineers that must deal with bridge design
in their day-to-day activities. It will attempt to explain the art of seismic
analysis and design in common sense engineering jargon with hands on
application of how to apply the proper structural stiffness, demand
calculations based on AASHTO methodology for single mode analyses using both
the Single Mode and the Uniform Load Method of analyses. The difference between
the two methods will be discussed and their respective
advantages/disadvantages.
Brief discussion about detailing of the end zones will be
included.
