Around the turn of the last century, the United States experience a rash of fires in cities like Chicago, Baltimore, and Spokane, that spread extensively within these urban areas. As a result, a number of U.S. cities were prompted to pursue a means for evaluating building construction with the goal of establishing ‘fireproof’ structures that were capable of withstanding severe fire conditions.

During this webinar, the presenter will touch on the history of the development of the ASTM E119 test, the pass/fail parameters of the test, and it’s incorporation into building codes adopted in the United States. They will discuss various aspects of fire resistance as contained in the building codes, review various recognized methods for achieving minimum fire resistance ratings, and review current on-going discussions regarding fire resistance and how it may be addressed using fire load and fire risk analysis. The webinar will also touch on requirements associated with third party special inspection requirements of spray applied fire resistance materials (SFRM).
