Description

Long-span composite steel deck-slabs are a special type of composite slabs, which allows for the design of buildings with large open spaces and requires special design consideration not typical for conventional composite steel deck-slabs. In this session, the ways of obtaining efficient designs of long-span composite slabs by providing supplemental reinforcing bars for extra strength, deflection control, and establishing fire resistance are presented. The importance of the serviceability considerations, such as slab deflection and walking-induced floor vibration control, which are more critical for the long-span slabs when compared with the conventional slabs, is emphasized. General information about composite steel deck-slabs, design criteria and available slab design resources is presented. Frequently asked questions pertinent to the design and construction of the long-span composite slabs are reviewed and answered.

  • Course will award 1.5 hours of continuing education
  • This course is Diamond Review approved in 49 states. New York does not accept hours from recordings.
