11.19.2020 | Fundamentals of Structural Planning

Structural planning is part of the schematic design phase where fundamental decisions about the choice of structural systems and materials are made. Site and contextual conditions, building type, scale, project design criteria (including building codes), and constructability, are factors that have considerable influence in the selection. Proper understanding of the rationale for structural decisions about materials, framing systems, and their layouts would lead to elegant, efficient, and economical solutions. This webinar provides an overview of structural planning considerations in order to explore better ways to establish the initial decisions in building design. A series of case-studies will be used to support the discussion.
