05.04.2021 | Floor Vibration Design Methods for Timber, Steel and Concrete

This presentation introduces floor vibration design methods for the many structural floor framing materials with an emphasis is on designing for human comfort and sensitive equipment to walking excitations. We will review available guidelines available for wood, steel, and concrete framed floors. Vibration metrics discussed cover the spectrum from simpler deflection and frequency limits to more involved prediction of response magnitudes using finite element analysis and modal superposition methods. The presentation will conclude with an overview of a new U.S. Mass Timber Floor Vibration Design Guide, available from WoodWorks – Wood Products Council.
