Cold-Formed Steel Framing Design Considerations Webinar Series

NCSEA is proud to deliver a brand new Web-Based Seminar for you on Cold-formed Steel Framing Design. This web-based Cold-formed Steel Seminar will be delivered over 3 consecutive days in three 1.5 to 2-hour webinars by one of the industry’s best and brightest minds, Roger LaBoube, PhD, P.E.

Cold-formed steel members are becoming more commonly used for structural members in curtain walls as well as axial load bearing wall framing. To better enable the use of cold-formed steel members, the American Iron and Steel Institute has developed design standards focused on the design of framing assemblies. The three-session webinar series will provide an overview of the framing standards as well as present a discussion of member design and behavior and also present topics that engineers may not encounter in a design standard.

The registration fee for the Seminar is $395 for members ($600 for nonmembers), which includes all 5 hours of education. Each individual webinar can be purchased separately for $150 for members ($250 for nonmembers).

  • Purchase all 3 webinars in the Seminar and have access to the recordings for 1 Year.
  • Each seminar purchase is per office location. If your firm is operating remotely, please review the Webinar FAQ's on how to accommodate multiple users from the same location.

Please note: These webinars are not included in the NCSEA Webinar Subscription.

Schedule of Events
September 21 - North American Standards for Cold-Formed Steel Framing - RECORDING IS NOW AVAILABLE!
An overview of the cold-formed steel framing standards will be presented. These Standards are referenced in 2018 IBC. The discussion will focus on design applications for curtain wall framing, axial load bearing framing and lateral force resisting systems.

September 22 - Cold-Formed Steel Member Design Methodology - RECORDING IS NOW AVAILABLE!
The North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members , AISI S100, prescribes member design considerations. The discussion will focus on the unique aspects of cold-formed steel member design with particular emphasis on the similarities and differences between cold-formed steel member behavior vs hot-rolled member behavior.

September 23 - Not All Design Topics Are Covered in a Standard - RECORDING IS NOW AVAILABLE!
Last year alone the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute's Hotline responded to hundreds of inquiries. These inquires cover the gamut of cold-formed steel applications. Because these questions often are beyond the scope of a design standard engineering judgement is needed.
Roger will review a few of the Hotline topics with a focus on employing engineering principals to solve everyday design considerations. Some of the topics to be discussed are …
  • X-braced shear wall - should loose straps be a concern?
  • Does gypsum between the steel plies impact the screw connection strength?
  • For the single-side strap brace, what are the implications for the design of the boundary post?
  • How does one design a shear wall for force transfer around openings?
