Masonry Inspection requirements can be traced back as far as
the 1943 Uniform Building Code, but were not well defined until recently. Specification for Masonry Structures, TMS
602-16, not only contains tabled inspection requirements for three Quality
Assurance Levels, but also introduces requirements for certified field testing
technicians and laboratory testing technicians similar to the requirements
contained in ACI 318.
This presentation will provide an insight on the new
requirements for field and lab testing technicians, and the expected
improvement in masonry quality control as a result of the new
requirements. In addition a basic review
of the essential aspects of masonry inspection will be presented along with
insight on the reformatted Quality Assurance Tables.
