01.11.2018 | Structural Concrete Special Inspections

This seminar will discuss in detail the specific special inspection requirements for concrete construction as listed in Chapter 17 of the 2015 International Building Code (IBC). The class will cover in detail the specific items requiring special inspection and testing such as reinforcement, formwork, concrete materials, anchors, placement, and curing techniques. Clarification will be provided as to how “periodic” special inspections should be specified in order to comply with ACI recommendations and a significant amount of time will be spent discussing the structural engineer of record’s responsibility in overseeing the special inspection program. The class will also cover the benefits of using an “approved” fabricator and what qualifications may be needed in order for precast fabricators to be approved. Sample statements of special inspections will be developed for a couple of project-specific examples.
