This
course provides an overview of common areas of concern regarding structural
stability during the construction process. The course is intended to highlight
issues that are often overlooked or missed during construction which can create
unsafe conditions leading to partial or complete structural collapse. The
course relies heavily on experience gained while investigating failures during
construction including issues such as construction bracing, baseplate grouting,
mechanical coupler grouting, field modification of bolt holes, and improper
installation of post-installed anchors. This course is intended to
highlight the importance of proper construction bracing and sequencing on site
and personal safety as well as to assist engineers identify poor construction
practices while performing construction administration services.
