The Structural Innovations of the New Mercedes Benz Stadium

1 Presentation 0 Sections

The new Mercedes Benz Stadium, home to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and MLS’s Atlanta United will feature a host of structural engineering innovations in its pioneering design. The 75,000-seat stadium features a retractable steel roof that by moving 8 cantilevered petals in a straight line, like a camera lens, it creates an optical illusion where the petals appears to rotate. In addition, the complex steel facades are clad in the first to use single-ply ETFE membrane as a facade material and is on track to be the first certified LEED platinum stadium.
