Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Structures for Mitigation of Progressive Collapse

1 Presentation 0 Sections

Government buildings have special design requirements intended to minimize the potential for Progressive Collapse. These additional design requirements can be easily incorporated into the design of new construction with proper planning and coordination, but structural upgrades can be expensive and challenging for existing buildings. This presentation will discuss the advantages of using advanced nonlinear dynamic analysis methods to maximize the contribution of the existing structural system, including components often considered secondary elements in reducing collapse potential when performing AP analysis.
Aldo McKay is a Senior Engineer & Principal at Protection Engineering Consultants. McKay has significant experience in 3-D dynamic non-linear modeling & analysis of buildings designed to mitigate progressive collapse. He developed & validated procedures for linear static, non-linear static and non-linear dynamic analyses of complex 3-D systems for UFC 4-023-03.
