Managers
typically hire based off of pedigree and interviews, but are surprised to learn
months later that the delightful interviewee is not an ideal employee.
Sometimes people are great at getting the job but not doing the job. It’s
critical to know the skills/traits the person needs to do the job as well as
how they will fit into the company culture. When an employee is in a position
that aligns with their inherent skill set, they are happier, more enthused and
engaged which, in turn, will maximize performance and boost production. Getting
a sense of how they tick – uncovering what motivates them and best ways to
manage/communicate with the individuals on your team, will ultimately keep them
around for the long run. Your employees can and should be your biggest asset.
Getting off on the right foot not only gives you the lead, but wins you the
race.
