Drilling Mud Quality, Additives, and Mixing Course (A Partner State Virtual Course)

Program Description:

This course covers aspects critical to utilizing drilling mud, including required quality of makeup water, the desired properties of drilling mud (viscosity, weight, gel strength), and the functions of these properties. The use and mixing of additives such as soda ash, polymers, and bentonite is discussed.

Program Objectives:
Upon completion of this course the attendee should be able to:
  • Identify personal protective equipment to be used when mixing drilling fluid
  • Recognize water quality parameters that impact drilling mud quality
  • List the order of addition of drilling fluid additive
  • Understand the impact drilling fluid additives have on fluid properties
  • Name the tools used to measure particular properties of drilling fluid
