Integrative Medicine Webinar: Herb Use in Marathon Sled Dogs

Presented by: Kimberly Henneman, DVM, DACVSMR (EQ, K9), FAAVA, DABT, CVA, CVC
This hour-long-ish webinar will discuss how herbs are used in elite, marathon-distance canine athletes at the Iditarod, and how they can serve as a model for veterinary herbal medicine in other active canines. For those unfamiliar with this annual event, the presentation will start with a brief review of the thousand-mile long Iditarod sled dog race celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2022. Topics will include its history, organization, what exactly happens on the trail, veterinary welfare responsibility, trail medicine, how mushers manage their dogs, and the roles that integrative veterinarians (specifically those knowledgeable in herbal medicine) can play in the health of the racing dog throughout the competition, as well as throughout the year.
