This course will review the legislative basis for incorporating animals into an emergency response along with the established framework for emergency preparedness for animals specifically within NY. We’ll also review the basics of FEMA’s incident command system (ICS) on which all emergency responses are based. Finally, we’ll review and discuss the unique role that veterinarians serve in both emergency preparedness and response. This is an adaptation of the County Animal Response Team (CART) Orientation required for all CART volunteers specific for veterinarians.
