Integrative Medicine Webinar: Cannabis in the Equine, yes it works!

Presented by: Joyce Harman, DVM

Cannabis can play an important role in equine medicine. The endocannabinoid system is perhaps less well researched than in other species but is just as present and as responsive to supplemental cannabinoids. However, there is much confusion especially among clients as to what hemp and CBD are and what they can be used for. We will demystify hemp and CBD and help you see where it's use might fit into equine practice.

Learning Objectives:

1) Learn what parts of the hemp plant are used for which purposes.
2) Learn which systems in the horse are the most responsive to supplemental CBD.
3) Learn the effects of CBDs on the endocannabinoid system.
4) Explore equine current research into CBD.

Dr. Joyce Harman is retired from Harmany Equine Clinic, a holistic equine practice in Virginia where she treated all types of horses from backyards to Olympic caliber. She has served as past president of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association and of the Veterinary Botanical Medicine Association among many others. As an herbalist she has worked with many plants, but the most exciting has been hemp. In the very early days of hemp legalization, she tested hemp and CBD for horses. As a result she created Docs Hemp, a company to bring high quality CBD to the horse world. In her retirement she is teaching an in-depth course in holistic nutrition online and plans to expand that over time to share what she has learned in practice.
