Course Description

This introductory course is designed for individuals interested in learning about or exploring a career in the subacute rehabilitation setting. Participants will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to better understand the role of each member of the multidisciplinary rehab team in the assessment and management of patients with chronic diseases, impairments, and disabilities. Understand optimization of patient care through rehab while improving efficiency and utilization of resources. To better understand the goals of intervention to optimize function and quality of life of an individual to allow them to make the most functional gains with the goal to safely transition them back to the community. You will learn about the role of the physiatrist and the primary care physician in co-managing complex patients including those who are cognitively impaired.

Recommended for physicians including residents/fellows, medical students, physical/occupational/speech therapists to improve their knowledge and awareness of managing rehabilitation in the subacute rehab world.

After participating in this activity, clinicians will be able to:

• Explain the geriatric physician role and the symbiotic relationship with the interdisciplinary team in efficiently and effectively managing patients through their recovery and discharge.
• Describe the roles of the members of the interdisciplinary therapy team in a rehabilitation facility.
• Discuss the management of a cognitively impaired patient in a subacute rehab setting
• Discuss reimbursement under the patient driven payment model

NYU Langone Health is a New York State Education Department approved provider for physical therapy and physical therapy assistant continuing education. This course is approved for a maximum of 3.5 physical therapy/physical therapy assistant contact hours. The following states require continuing education units with no state-specific approval: CT, IA, ID, MO, ND, and WA.

Refund Policy
In order to request a refund you must email Krystal.Pearce@nyulangone.org no later than 14 days prior to the first day of the course. An administrative fee of $75 will be deducted from your refund. Cancellations or no-shows after this date are not eligible for a refund. Registration is non-transferable.

Course Cancellation Policy
If a live course is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, or any other reason, Rusk Rehabilitation will refund registration fees in full. Rusk Rehabilitation will provide at least two weeks’ advance notice if cancelling due to insufficient enrollment and as soon as possible in all other circumstances. Rusk Rehabilitation is not responsible for any non-cancellable costs incurred by the registrant.

In the unlikely event that a recorded course is cancelled/not available for the 1 year time period as advertised, the registration fee will be refunded in full.
