Fundamentals of Hand Therapy: Everything You Need to Know as an OT or PT On-Demand

Rusk Rehabilitation

Course Description

Custom orthotic fabrication can be a difficult skill to master. It is not only a science, but an art that requires time, patience and practice. Clinicians must understand the theoretical principles of orthotic fabrication as well as develop an expertise in its application. They must develop an understanding of the appropriate use of a variety of materials as they customize the orthosis to fit each individual and unique hand. This lecture series is designed for OTs and PTs with minimal to no experience fabricating orthoses.

The goal of this course is to gain an understanding of common diagnoses of the hand, wrist and elbow including tendinopathies, neuropathies, fractures, and ligament injuries, as well as to develop basic skills in orthotic fabrication for these diagnoses.

The lectures will integrate both physician and therapist perspectives when it comes to managing these basic conditions.
