Recorded Webinar- Stuck in the Basement: Understanding and Treating Trauma in Children

Trauma exposure can affect children and families in many different ways. In this seminar, Kayla will provide an introduction to Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and other therapeutic Interventions to provide understanding, skills, and concepts that help families and children understand their trauma history. Kayla will also discuss methods for clinicians to build “felt safety” in the office with clients in an aim to repair bonds and grow.

The objectives for this course include:
1. Understanding how trauma affects the growing brain
2. Reviewing trauma-specific and attachment disorders, how trauma affects attachment, and how to rebuild bonds after trauma
3. Exploring trauma-informed interventions to promote healing, attachment, and connection

Kayla Jones, LPC
Kayla Jones is a Licensed Professional Counselor working in private practice in Edmond, OK. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Southern Nazarene University in 2014 and became licensed in February 2017. She has experience working with children in acute and residential treatment programs and children, teens, and adults in out-patient community mental health programs. Kayla has received extensive training in multiple evidence-based psychotherapies including Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She has also attended Practioner training for Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) in Texas. Today, Kayla has a private practice in Edmond, works as an adjunct professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, and contracts with HALO Project, a therapeutic foster care organization, where she utilizes TBRI principles as a therapist and Kid’s Club Leader.
