Addiction can be a product of psychological, environmental, physical, and other factors. Join Jeff Jones as he discusses current trends in addiction science and reviews the cognitive behavioral model as it relates to addiction treatment. Jeff will also explore the advantages of using structured exercises to address how negative attitudes towards the self can inhibit a person’s ability to perceive change as possible.

The objectives for this course include:
1. Learning ways to incorporate a person-centered focus to enhance the therapeutic relationship when working with clients living with addiction.
2. Discussing basic components of CBT, including Functional Analysis and Skills Training, as they relate to addiction treatment.
3. Exploring ways of fostering motivation for living optimally by understanding the evidence of committing to behavior change when pursuing long-term growth.

Jeff Jones, LPC, LADC
Jeffrey Jones is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Edmond, Oklahoma. Jeffrey is a graduate from the University of Central Oklahoma both for his Bachelor’s in 2007 and his Master’s in 2010. Jeffrey has experience working in community mental health settings where he worked specifically with a diverse population suffering from severe mental health, trauma, and addiction. Jeffrey has participated in and presented on several professional trainings on evidence-based models proven effective for addiction treatment, including Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Therapies. Jeffrey is also a trained SMART Recovery facilitator and hosts a weekly meeting at the University of Central Oklahoma where he works with both students and community members. Jeffrey is a full-time counselor at the Center for Counseling and Well Being at the University of Central Oklahoma.
