Witnessing or listening to the telling of traumatic experiences as part of a career can lead to the development of secondary trauma symptoms and burnout if self-care and self-preservation steps are not taken. Join Hayley Twyman Brack, MA, LPC as she explores the etiology of secondary trauma and burnout, considerations for clients experiencing symptoms of secondary trauma and burnout, and the ethical duty for mental health clinicians to take proactive steps in preventing secondary trauma and burnout in their own profession. Coping strategies, boundary setting techniques, and psychoeducation will be explored, along with special considerations for clients working in health care, mental health, and teaching professions.
Objectives include:

-To review clinical interventions for use with clients experiencing symptoms of secondary trauma and burnout.

-To discuss self-care and self-preservations strategies as ethical practice for mental health clinicians preventing and mitigating their own experiences of secondary trauma and burnout

Hayley Twyman Brack, MA LPC
Hayley holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Hayley earned an Honors College Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a second in Multidisciplinary Studies from Oklahoma State University, where she also served as a research assistant in two psychology laboratories. Hayley is a clinician with Edmond Counseling & Professional Development and the Education Specialist with the Oklahoma Counseling Institute. She has training and experience in the treatment of trauma, grief, and anxiety-related disorders. Hayley is also a writer for OCI and more and cohost of the board gaming podcast, Malthaus Games.
