Description
Dentistry’s future is Airway. The dental damage of sleep fragmentation and airway insufficiency can be detected in every orthodontic practice, every single day. Malocclusion, craniofacial abnormalities, tooth wear/erosion, and muscle pain can all be linked to difficulty in managing the airway. The 21st century practitioner must be forward thinking in not only controlling the disease with a mandibular advancement appliance, but also how to most effectively resolve the medical and dental co-morbidities of airway/sleep insufficiency. Dr. Rouse will introduce an Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) Trial that will lead the dentists to a strategy for resolution and referrals. Case studies to assist working with medical and dental colleagues in defining an interdisciplinary resolution strategy will be presented.
- Understand the airway/sleep-disease connection and the role of the dental team
- Learn treatment options including orthodontics, orthognathics, otolaryngology, and myofunctional therapy
- Define a resolution strategy based on the patients' response to the ANS Trail
