treatment options for the management of obstructive
sleep apnea/sleep disordered breathing in children and
adults. This session will clarify how their understanding
of craniofacial growth and development, mandibular
advancement devices, and rapid maxillary expansion
can benefit patients at risk for or diagnosed by their
physicians with sleep disordered breathing.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Screen for risk of sleep disordered breathing in their
pediatric and adult patients.
Describe the unique expertise of orthodontists to
provide alternative treatment options to continuous
positive airway pressure for sleep disordered breathing.
Discuss the feasibility and limitations of rapid maxillary
expansion and mandibular advancement devices as
treatment options for sleep disordered breathing.
