COURSE DESCRIPTION
Patients with kidney failure
(end-stage kidney disease) have multiple medical problems, high symptom burden,
and limited life expectancy. They require complex care including advance care
planning and meticulous pain and symptom management to ensure that they live as
long and as well as possible and die comfortably in a manner respectful of
their wishes.
Research shows that patients with
kidney failure rarely receive palliative care, resulting in poorer quality care
with increased suffering and frequently unwanted high intensity care at the end
of life.
This three-part series will cover:
- Communication Skills for Effective Advance Care Planning with Your Patients
- Implementing Medical Management without Dialysis for Seriously Ill Older CKD Patients
- Evidence-based Approaches to Treating Symptoms in Patients with Kidney Disease
