review process for research on the archives profession sponsored by the SAA
Committee on Research, Data, and Assessment. The process of seeking approval
from an institutional review board is often perceived as a barrier to
undertaking research that may contribute valuable knowledge to our field. This
discussion aims to answer the following questions:

- Which types of research require approval from an IRB?
