SFIA-105: Energy codes and cold-formed steel structures
AIA Course
Recorded on October 25 2022

Course Description
Adoption of Energy codes and standards has expanded dramatically from even a few years ago, adding new and unique challenges for almost every type of building in all climate zones. This program will help designers gain a better understanding of today’s requirements, their impact on cold-formed steel framing, and the various compliance methods to get the best performance without adding excessive costs. Cold-formed steel has benefited from the development of new technologies and tools that enable compliance, as demonstrated in this presentation.
Learning objectives
  1. To relate the primary reasons energy codes and standards are important to the Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) industry
  2. To gain a basic understanding of compliance options in the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and ASHRAE Standard 90.1
  3. To demonstrate key prescriptive requirements that impact CFS through specific examples
  4. To understand the application of building energy simulation software for performance compliance
