This course will explore how
9/11, in particular the World Trade Center, changed the requirements for
high-rise buildings in the context of the IBC. The timeline of the work and challenges faced will be explored. Specific changes to the IBC will be reviewed along
with the reasoning for each provision. This will be followed by progress report on the evolution and implementation
of these requirements. The course will
be concluded with a discussion on what issues are currently and will affect building regulations into the future.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify when changes related to 9/11 were first included in the IBC
- Be able to describe at least 4 requirements that were implemented into the IBC as a result of 9/11
- Name at least 3 issues affecting fire safety currently and as we move into the future
