Live Member Webinar: BIM-Based Fire Approval Process

Presented live on Feb. 22, 2021
Presenters: Marta Passalacqua, PEng

The development of digitization processes created to supplement the implementation of BIM methodology is expanding rapidly. Each stakeholder who participates in the industry has had to modify, develop, and integrate this new methodology within the context of their workflow. One critical aspect of any project is the management of the administrative processes with the authorities having jurisdiction. In the context of the fire prevention strategy, we are working together with the Fire Department to establish a standard for the review of Fire Department submittals. To maximize the benefits possible with BIM methodology, it is first necessary to create a digital version of the Fire Code and a National BIM Fire Standard that, taken together, make it possible to design and submit the fire prevention strategy for a project in an open format model, such as IFC, and facilitate the approval process. The digitalization of a fire prevention model for a new building in Milan is presented as a case study with the objective of being reviewed and approved by the National Fire Brigade (in Italy CNVVF) in 2020.
