    Beginning his career as a professional firefighter, John rose to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief at a major industrial logistics center and aircraft overhaul facility for the United States Air Force. He subsequently joined the Highly Protected Risk insurance industry as a property loss control engineer. John is currently the Chief Technical Engineer (Property) AXA XL Risk Consulting, where he and his team provide advanced fire protection engineering support to the organization and its customers. More than 20 years ago, John developed a strong interest in probabilistic risk assessments. He has applied this process for several global customers, including on-site assessments in Germany, Russia, Switzerland, the UK, and throughout the United States. He has likewise applied these techniques to his company’s underwriting community. He has presented on these methods at engineering and underwriting conferences. John was the lead instructor for the AXA XL Risk Consulting/SFPE online professional engineering review course from 2002-2019 and served as an advisor in 2020 when the course was fully transitioned to SFPE. His additional areas of expertise include flammable liquids fire protection, sprinkler, and water supply hydraulics, warehouse fire protection, foam systems, and the integration of fire service operations with engineered fire protection at industrial facilities. John’s education includes an undergraduate degree in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati, a Graduate Certificate in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and an MBA from Mercer University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Fire Protection Engineering, a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, and holds numerous fire service certifications. In 2014, John was elected to the grade of Fellow in the SFPE. John has a total of 40 years in the fire protection industry.
