Description

Description:
UL 9540A is effective for evaluating thermal runaway at the cell and module level but is often insufficient for the unit and installation level tests for LFP systems. In order to evaluate if a battery enclosure is effective in containing thermal runway from propagating to a neighboring enclosure, you must create a thermal runaway event large enough to propagate beyond the initiating module and consume the initiating enclosure. This condition is not accomplished for LFP using the UL 9540A test method as thermal runaway does not propagate beyond the initiating module. Fluence designed a large-scale fire test that goes above and beyond the requirements of UL 9540A testing in order to evaluate the ability of the enclosure to contain an extreme thermal runaway event from propagating to neighboring Cubes.
