Clinical Update in Medical Education and Education Scholarship 2021

Faculty members, with interest and expertise in undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate medical education, in both the outpatient and inpatient clinical settings review the medical education literature from March 2020 through March 2021 and discuss key publications, specifying how each article has influenced our teaching practices. This year, society has had an awakening to the critical importance of diversity, equity and inclusion all while grappling with the COVID-19 global pandemic. Understandably, these events have significantly influenced medical education. Although not the exclusive focus of this update, presenters review articles that are related to these major events of the past year. Presenters highlight efforts to mitigate bias and incorporate social justice and health equity in medical education and review the rapid transition to remote learning as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, and address best practices in telemedicine with a lens on improving access to high quality healthcare.
