Transforming GIM for Improved LGBTQ Healthcare: Strategies from the Bedside to the Legislature

The complex interplay among provider-patient relationships, institutional policies and state and federal structures continue to slow the progress in advancing LGBTQ health outcomes. This presentation will cover implications of telehealth expansion, including opportunities for improved provision of care to rural populations, but also known disparities in access to digital healthcare for LGBTQ populations. Presenters will discuss health policy advocacy and the importance of engaging community organizations, including those that support youth who may be displaced from university. Lastly, presenters will review the importance of individual provider-patient relationship, including helping to navigate any delays in gender-affirming care and surgeries due to the pandemic; and review strategies for action across the healthcare spectrum in the context of an evolving digital healthcare space.
