This Clinical Update in Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 was originally presented at the SGIM22 annual meeting in Orlando (April 2022).
As we learn about he prevalence of post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2, physicians and patients alike are now increasingly aware of the persistence of symtoms several weeks to months after the infection.
This presentation aims to provide updates on the definition of post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2, its prevalence as well as potential management and treatment plan. This topic is of utmost importance to primary care and general internal medicine physicans.
Presenters are part of a part of a research group conducting a large-scale analysis of the prevalence of symptoms post SARS-CoV-2 as well as their impact on functional capacity and quality of life, compared to a contol group with matched SARS-CoV-2 negative participants. They will share published articles from the research group, as well as important results from studies in the past year assessing prevalence, risk factors, and potential mechanisms. Presentation will compare post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 to pandemic-related effects in general as well as potential persistent symptoms following other respiratory infections.
