This Clinical Update in Perioperatie Medicine was originally presented at the SGIM22 annual meeting in Orlando (April 2022).

Periperative and consultative medicine are important to both ambulatory and hospital-based general internists.  More elderly patients and patients with complex medical conditions will need surgery, requiring internal medicine care.

This update focues on key areas within perioperative and consultatie medicine, including cardiovascular care, pulmonary risk, hematologic management, and other aspects.  This update proves essential skills and knowledge for internists to fill their role within the spectrum of care.  Presenters will cover 3-4 of the most relevant publications from the past year.  Publications have been identified by performing a comprehensive literature review and presenters voting on the most important papers.
