This Clinical Update in Telehealth was originally delivered at the SGIM22 annual meeting in Orlando (April 2022).
While the pandemic has been catastrophic, especially for our most vulnerable populations, we are learning that there are ways to mitigate the inequities through the purposeful and thoughtful use of technology.
This session looks at telehealth through the lens of the AAMC Telehealth Competencies. Telehealth has played a critical role in maintaining our connection to patients during the pandemic. However, the rapid expansion of telehealth has surfaced many areas that must be addressed as we incorporate virtual care into a holistic care delivery model: clinical practice, medical education, health policy, ethics, and equity.
Telehealth is highly relevant to clinical practice during the pandemic and for the future of healthcare delivery. Telehealth is in a rapid expansion phase and the presenters reviewed high impact and relevant telehealth studies that contribute to the development of evidence based teaching and assessment strategies to promote excellence in the delivery of high quality, effective and equitable telehealth care.
