This Clinical Update in Research Methods for the General Internist was originally presented at the SGIM22 annual meeting in Orlando (April 2022).

The requisite changes to medical education brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic affirmed the important place of Digital Scholarship within medical education.  As traditional curricula are moved into virtual platforms, a growing number of undergraduate and graduate medical curricula are formally incorporating open-access digital content like podcasts, tweetorials, and live virtual case presentations.  Digital Scholarship, in blending asynchronous learning environments with opportunities for real-time discourse using multiple social media platforms, continues to transform our learning environments at an escalating pace.

It is imperative that medical educators familiarize themselves with Digital Scholarship to sherpherd learners toward high-qualtiy means of self-directed learning. The increasing recognition of Digital Scholarship is more than knowledge translation, it is exploring humanities and narrative medicine opportunities to use these tools to expand curricula into necessary and unchartered territories.

This session presents Digital Scholarship within domains according to purpose:  advances in education, narrative Digital Scholarship, and community engaged Digital Scholarship.   Presenters bring greater recognition to the impact that these resources can have on our learners individually and our medical educaiton system as a whole, and by doing so ultimately provide better care for our patients and communities.
