This symposium, COVID-19 Vaccine Access, Education, and Equity, was originally delivered at the SGIM22 annual meeting in Orlando (April 2022) and re-recorded April/May 2022).

Learning Objectives
:

  • Identify factors affecting COVID-19 vaccine confidence and acceptance
  • Demonstrate effective communication about COVID-19 vaccination
  • List strategies for community education and enhancing vaccine equity
  • Identify factors affective COVID-19 misinformation and disinformation and how to address these issues
  • Describe the history and role of mandates in public health implementatin of vaccine programs
COVID-19 has had a devastating impact.  Communities of color, those living in pverty, front line workers, and other groups have faced disparate morbidity and mortality from COVID-10.  Vaccine acceptance and access have been uneven by region, race/ethnicity, and also affected by religious and political affiliation.  Vaccine confidence has been impacted by distrust of the health care system or government, often influenced by racism and the historic mistreatment of poor and minority people in the United States.  This symposia addresses these issues and identifies future directions as we assess the status of the pandemic and the vaccine status of the nation and the world.
