This symposium, AHRQ's Primary Care Research Center and Your Career, was originally presented at the SGIM22 annual meeting in Orlando (April 2022) and re-recorded April/May 2022.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the unique threats to the US primary care workforce
  • Define the role of AHRQ in supporting primary care
  • Define the mission of AHRQ's National Center of Excellence in Primary Care Research
  • Understand how the Center can enhance generalitsts' careers in terms of discover, equity and impact
The primary care workforce faces major challenges in the years ahead, including low reimbursement rates, persistent inequities in career advancement, few trainees choosing careers in primary care, a declining research pipeline, and widespread clinician burnout.  Interventions that nurture generalists' ability to discover new knowledge, enhance health equity, and positively impact communities can foster more fulfilling and sustainable careers in primary care and broaden its appeal to trainees.
