This symposium, Promoting Equity, Wellbing, and Public Good in the UME-GME Transition: Recommendations of the Coalition for Physician Accountability UME-GME Reivew Committee (UGRC), was originally presented at the SGIM22 annual meeting in Orlando (April 2022).

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss current problems with the UME to GME transition and how it differs from the optimal state
  • Evaluate potential root causes of the problems with the UME to GME transition
  • Describe how a continous quality improvement model has potential to move the transition toward the optimal state
  • Explain how the recommendations from the Coalition for Physician Accountability UME-CME Review Committee will promote equity, well being, and the public good
The UME-GME Review Committee (UGRC), convened by the Coalition for Physician Accountability, was charged to recommend solutions to longstanding challenges in the UME-GME transition related to equity, transparency, efficiency, and well-being. The UGRC took a structured approach to generating recommendations by generating an ideal state, performing root cause analses, seeking community input, reviewing the literature, and requiring a supermajority vote for approval. Presenters review key recommendations of interest to the SGIM community.
