    Michael A. Corbett, a native of Pelham Manor, NY, has an MBA degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. He also has studied advanced international finance at the London School of Business. He is a member of the board of Catholic Charities of Tennessee.  Mr. Corbett's first professional post was as a corporate lender with Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in New York City. Subsequently he held senior financial positions with West Point Pepperell, Purolator Courier Corporation, Macmillan Publishing Company and Genesco, Inc.

    Prior to joining the Department of Commerce and Insurance, Mr. Corbett developed an institutional financial consulting practice at a major brokerage house that focused on captive insurance companies. During this time, Mr. Corbett sat on the finance committee of the Vermont Captive Insurance Association and has served as its Chairman.  His duties at the Department include the admission and regulation of Tennessee captive insurance companies. Along with Commissioner McPeak, he and his staff are dedicated to making Tennessee a first class domicile for captive insurance companies. Since the rewrite of the captive statute in 2011, the Captive Section has formed 545 Risk Bearing Entities (RBEs) in various types of captive insurance companies.
