The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the health disparities faced by segments of our population, which leads to higher infant mortality rates, poor general health and, shorter life spans. The disparities are also highly prevalent in clinical research and historical legacy of research has led to cultural resistance and trust issues. The first half of the webinar will review the approach from a large integrated health system in Minneapolis and discuss the journey, process and structures that have been established.
The second half of the webinar will focus on the historical perspective of bias in clinical research literature, FDA guidance and an example of inclusion in a global vaccine clinical trial. Strategies for creating a diverse clinical research pipeline and recruitment, retention, and leadership for diverse employees will be shared.
