Description
Encore | A Series of Annual Meeting iSessions
A major factor in preparing successful grant applications is understanding how the agency review process works and tailoring the application to ensure a positive review. Research administrators can play a crucial role in proposal success by understanding similarities and differences in the review process at major U.S. federal and non-federal grant agencies. This session will present information about the review process at NSF, NIH, DOD including DARPA and ONR, DOE, Education, NASA NEH, and the Robert Wood Johnson and Susan G. Komen foundations. Participants will learn the stages of the review process, scoring and rating systems, how reviewers are selected, what reviewers look for in successful proposals, the benefits of becoming a reviewer, and why it is important for research administrators to understand and communicate the diverse agency review systems.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the agency review process at major federal and non-federal grant organizations and apply that knowledge to enhance proposal success for principal investigators.
- Understand how grant agencies select reviewers and the personal and institutional benefits from serving as a proposal reviewer.
