Description

The increasing trend of using low SAPS and low-viscosity oils presents a challenge for the industry in mitigating friction and wear between moving parts.

Multifunctional organic friction modifiers (OFMs) address this issue by simplifying the lubricant composition, reducing costs, and enhancing efficiency.

This webinar discusses the development of various types of multifunctional OFMs that are effective at minimal treat rates, exhibit reliable performance at low temperatures, and synergize with MoDTC.

The additives were evaluated under several automotive application conditions. The results confirmed that substantial friction reduction and additional wear protection can be achieved at relatively low treat rates, showcasing the benefits of polymeric products as ideal components to achieve a significantly low and stable friction coefficient across all lubrication regimes without adversely affecting traction.

Nouryon’s selection of these new types of OFMs will allow our customers, based on their operating needs, to optimize the performance of their lubricant formulations while offering additional benefits such as TBN boosting and corrosion inhibition, among others.

These findings underscore the superior performance of the multifunctional OFMs, positioning them as an attractive choice for various lubricant applications.

Speaker: Alina Filin
Alina Filin holds the position of Senior Researcher for the Lubricants and Fuels team at Nouryon and has approximately 12 years of experience in the lubricants industry. She began her academic journey at the Gubkin State University of Oil and Gas, earning her master’s degree in chemistry and technology of lubricants. Currently stationed at Nouryon's R&D Center in Deventer, The Netherlands, Alina is supporting innovation in the field of friction modifiers and tribology.
