CRT2330 De-escalating aggressive student behaviour (special schools)

Presenter: Belinda Webb

Course Length: 1 hour(s)

Description:
Many CRTs are finding opportunities to teach in special school settings, but the work presents new challenges, encountering students who may have very different behaviour patterns. In this session an experienced Special School teacher will work through a range of de-escalation strategies that can be used with students if heightened levels of aggression develop in the classroom. This session will outline preventative strategies as well as strategies that can be used in the heat of the moment, including the use of assertive dialogue to minimise aggression or anxiety. The techniques that will be covered may also be useful for managing heightened behaviour in mainstream school settings.
