ICC CEUs - 0.35 - This 4-module course will walk viewers through the California regulations governing Accessory
Dwelling Units (ADUs) and how to perform an appropriate building plan review of
ADUs. The course will begin by walking the attendees through the prescriptive
structural requirements of the
2019 California Residential Code (CRC),
including the braced wall provisions, as many ADUs do not have engineering and conform
to conventional construction. As a result, the structural provisions discussed
in this course can also be applied to most accessory structures and not just
ADUs. The course will then tackle many of the non-structural requirements
included in both the CRC and the additional provisions included in California
Government Code Sections 65852.2 and 65852.22.
Course Objectives: This course is designed to assist
building officials, building
inspectors, permit technicians, and plans examiners to quickly perform a review
of Accessory Dwelling Units and Accessory Structures. Viewers will also learn
what to look for in the field to ensure code compliance in addition to becoming
familiar with the mandatory requirements of California Law related to ADU’s.
