Description

The Grand Rounds at the World Glaucoma Congress is an inclusive, interactive session where selected cases will be presented by the submitting authors followed by discussion by an expert panel. Audience participation and discussion will be encouraged. Topics will range from developmental and diagnostic issues to medical and surgical management of glaucoma. The session will promote interactive learning with discussion of pertinent literature and clinical experience. Five cases will be chosen for discussion from submitted abstracts. Everyone is invited to attend and participate in the lively discussion.

  • Dr. Jody Piltz-Seymour, MD

    Affiliation: Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania and the Director of the Glaucoma Care Center which provides subspecialty glaucoma care throughout the greater Philadelphia region.

    Research Interest: Clinical research in glaucoma; angle closure glaucoma, subtleties of glaucoma diagnosis, refining medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma

    Leadership Positions: Dr. Piltz-Seymour is both an educator and a glaucoma clinical researcher. As director of the glaucoma service at the University of Pennsylvania for 15 years, she chaired the glaucoma fellowship program and trained resident ophthalmologists. She has served as a Principal Investigator for numerous National Institute of Health/National Eye Institute and industry sponsored clinical trials including the Ocular Hypertensive Treatment Study and the Collaborative Initial Glaucoma Treatment Study. She has served on the executive, program, membership and research committees of the American Glaucoma Society as well as the program committee for the glaucoma section of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting, basic and clinical science course committee, patient care committee and others Dr. Piltz-Seymour has served as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and the Chair of the Glaucoma Section of the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program.

    Special Honors: Dr. Piltz-Seymour has received an Achievement Award and Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She has been recognized in "Best Doctors in America" for more than a decade and was chosen by Philadelphia Magazine as a “Top Doc for Seniors".

  • Helen Danesh-Meyer

    Prof Helen Danesh-Meyer attended the University of Otago Medical School graduating in 1991. After completing her post-graduate professional training in ophthalmology in Dunedin, Christchurch and Auckland she was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists after achieving the highest marks in both the Part I and Part II Examinations. Thereafter she undertook a further two years of fellowship training in glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
    Professor Danesh-Meyer provides a significant contribution to lecturing undergraduate science, medical and optometry students as well as post-graduate optometry and ophthalmology professional teaching – both nationally and internationally. Helen has also been recognised for her research – receiving numerous awards and research grants, and publishing more than 120 articles.
    Helen has also developed several innovative teaching programmes for non-medical professionals and the public. She initiated the development of clinical ophthalmology training for nurses leading to nurse-based ophthalmology clinics both for glaucoma and cataract management within Auckland District Health Boards – a policy now being adopted elsewhere in New Zealand. She has also developed a web-based Continuing Medical Education programme for New Zealand Optometrists which has been successfully providing continuing education for over 250 optometrists (approximately 50% of practicing NZ optometrists) annually for the past four years. As part of her position as Chairman of Glaucoma New Zealand, Helen regularly gives public lectures to educate patients with glaucoma about their disease.

  • Dr. G Chandra Sekhar

    After receiving his basic medical degree in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, Dr. G Chandra Sekhar completed his residency in ophthalmology at the All India Institute for Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Dr. G Chandra has been associated with the LV Prasad Eye Institute from its inception in 1987. Dr. GC as he is popularly known is currently the Vice Chair and Director of Kallam Anji Reddy Campus at Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. He is an astute clinician and a passionate and popular teacher. As the head of the Glaucoma Service at LV Prasad Eye Institute, he has trained over 38 glaucoma fellows 8 of whom were international. His contributions as the Director of Education at LV Prasad Eye Institute have been recognized by the institution by creating a Chair on his name “G Chandra Sekhar Chair of Director of Education”.

    He has published over 92 papers in national and international peer reviewed journals and has been a reviewer for a number of Ophthalmology journals. He has delivered several named orations including the prestigious Professor P Siva Reddy Gold Medal Oration of the All India Ophthalmological Society. He holds the position of adjunct clinical Professor at the University of Rochester and Case Western Reserve University. He has served as the President of the Glaucoma Society of India (2005-06) and is a member of the Glaucoma Research Society affiliated to the International Council of Ophthalmology. He serves as a member of Board of Governors of World Glaucoma Association and in the Clinical Guidelines Committee of ICO.

  • Fernando Gomez Goyeneche, MD

    Affiliation: Senior Consultant and Head of the Glaucoma Clinic, Hospital Militar Central; Associate professor and chair of the glaucoma fellowship program at the Department of Ophthalmology, Universidad Militar Nueva Granada, Bogota, Colombia

  • Francisco Javier Goñi

    Francisco Javier Goñi obtained his MD and PhD degrees
    at Navarra University, Spain, in 1985 and 1994, respectively. He undertook his ophthalmological training at the Department of Ophthalmology, Sant Pau Hospital, Barcelona, and qualified as an ophthalmologist in 1991. Since 2003 Dr Goñi is head of the Integrated Ophthalmology Department at Hospital de Granollers, Hospital de Mollet and Hospital de Sant Celoni (SIOVO, Vallès Oriental, Barcelona), and has been an Associated Professor at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya and Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. His main area of interest is in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma.

  • A. Robin, MD

    CLINICAL AND SURGICAL EXPERIENCE IN OPHTHALMOLOGY:
    Clinical Experience:
    Working as a Locum SHO in various DGH and Teaching hospitals in UK, I learnt a system of practical ophthalmology wherein the pros and cons of various interventions was judged before its application. I also gained exposure to the different protocols for diseases management. Wockhardt Hospital being a corporate hospital, well equipped with modern instruments, the patient expectation was high. This helped me develop a great deal of tact and understanding while interacting with them. In Narayan Nethralaya, I worked as a Junior Consultant in Glaucoma Services. This gave me tremendous experience in dealing with patients suffering from Glaucoma.
