This session will see discussion of the clinical evidence for the role of aqueous shunts in the surgical management of glaucoma, the pathophysiological mechanisms that determine success, the long-term risks and the economics of using shunt devices in differing economic environments.

    Keith Barton is a Glaucoma Specialist whose research interests include the surgical management of glaucoma, specifically secondary glaucoma and the use of aqueous shunt devices, and the management of cataract in glaucoma.

  • Prof Ramanjit Sihota, MD

    Prof Ramanjit Sihota, MD, FRCS, FRCOphth, is heading the Glaucoma research facility and clinical services at Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India.

    She completed her MD Ophthalmology in 1982, and her FRCS, Edinburgh in 1984. She has won the World Glaucoma Association –‘ Research recognition award’ 2011, and numerous national and international awards for research in glaucoma, especially pertaining to primary angle closure disease, glaucoma surgery and imaging in glaucoma.

    She is a member of the International Glaucoma Research Society, the Glaucoma advisory group and Project evaluation committee of the Indian Council of Medical Research, the Postgraduate committee of the Medical Council of India, the executive committee of APGC and committees of the Association of International Glaucoma Societies/ World Glaucoma Association. She is a past president of the Glaucoma Society of India.

    She extensively revised ‘Parson’s Diseases of the Eye’, and has published over 100 papers in peer reviewed indexed international journals.
