  • Robert D. Fechtner, MD

    Robert D. Fechtner, MD is Professor and Director of the Glaucoma Division at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark where he also chairs the Institutional Review Board for human subject studies.

    Dr. Fechtner is the Executive Vice President of the World Glaucoma Association. He is an active member of numerous organizations including the New Jersey Glaucoma Society, the American Glaucoma Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He has served on the editorial boards of American Journal of Ophthalmology, Journal of Glaucoma, Review of Ophthalmology, and Video Journal of Ophthalmology. He has published over 100 articles, book chapters and monographs and is the associate editor of the Textbook of Ocular Pharmacology.

  • Jeffrey M. Liebmann, MD

    Jeffrey M. Liebmann, MD graduated from Boston University School of Medicine in 1984, completed his ophthalmology residency at the State University of New York/Downstate Medical Center in 1987 and his glaucoma fellowship at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Liebmann is presently Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at New York University School of Medicine and Director of Glaucoma Services at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital and New York University Langone Medical Center and Adjunct Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and American College of Surgeons. Dr. Liebmann currently is the immediate past-President of the American Glaucoma Society, Secretary-Treasurer of the New York Glaucoma Society and co-editor of Journal of Glaucoma and is a member of the Board of Governors of the World Glaucoma Association and Board of Directors of The Glaucoma Foundation. Dr. Liebmann has served as President of the New York Society for Clinical Ophthalmology and as member of the ARVO Glaucoma Section Planning Committee and is co-founder of the New York Glaucoma Research Institute, the American Glaucoma Society Foundation and ASCRS Glaucoma Day.

    In addition to maintaining a busy tertiary-care referral practice in New York City, Dr. Liebmann is Principal Investigator of the African Descent and Glaucoma Evaluation Study at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and is the author and/or co-author of more than 950 medical and scientific papers, book chapters, and abstracts. He has lectured widely in the United States and abroad on glaucoma diagnosis and management. His current main areas of research interest include the causes of glaucoma, glaucoma progression, glaucoma surgery, ocular imaging, and neuroprotection.

    Affiliation: Ringland Anderson Professor of Ophthalmology, University of Melbourne, Managing Director of the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) and a practising glaucoma specialist clinician at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne, Australia

    Areas of Interest: Ageing and neuroprotection of the optic nerve; The role of mitochondrial dysfunction in optic nerve vulnerability to injury.

    Leadership Position: He has published over 115 peer-reviewed manuscripts and co-authored three books. He is an NHMRC Practitioner-Fellow and has received a number of awards for his research and recently gained the RANZCO College of Ophthalmologists Excellence in Teaching Award

  • Robert N. Weinreb, MD

    Robert N. Weinreb, MD, is a clinician, surgeon, and scientist. Dr. Weinreb graduated from Harvard Medical School, and is the Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California, San Diego. He also holds the Morris Gleich Chair and is Director of both the Shiley Eye Center and the Hamilton Glaucoma Center. Dr. Weinreb’s innovative glaucoma research ranges from the front to the back of the eye and from the clinic to the laboratory. His work has significantly impacted our understanding of the pathophysiology and biology of glaucoma, as well as its diagnosis and management. He has served as resident of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), President of the World Glaucoma Association (WGA), and President of the American Glaucoma Society. A Founder of the World Glaucoma Association, he also has been the recipient of numerous prestigious prizes and awards. Dr. Weinreb has trained more than 120 post-doctoral Fellows in Glaucoma, many of whom hold distinguished academic positions throughout the world.

    Ivan Goldberg is Clinical Associate Professor, University of Sydney, Head, Glaucoma Unit, Sydney Eye Hospital and Director, Eye Associates, Sydney Australia. He has an active interest in patient care, teaching, clinical research and developing professional associations.
    Ivan is President of the Asia Pacific Glaucoma Society, the Australian and New Zealand Glaucoma Interest Group and Glaucoma Australia. He is a Past President of the World Glaucoma Association and of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and is an Active Member of the Glaucoma Research Society.
    Ivan has been honoured with an Order of Australia, with the International Scholar Award of the American Glaucoma Society, by the University of Sao Paulo and with honorary memberships of the Philippine and South African Glaucoma Societies.
