This course provides a historical overview of key periods, places and uses related to water as a therapeutic medium prior to the emergence of physical therapy. This course will introduce participants to the use of water as a therapeutic medium prior to the emergence of Modern Aquatic Therapy. The establishment of the Aquatic Physical Therapy Section will also be discussed. Other aquatic therapy organizations and resources will be identified.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Discuss key periods, places and uses related to water as a therapeutic medium prior to the emergence of modern physical therapy.
- Discuss key periods, places and uses related to water as a therapeutic medium from the earlier history of physical therapy to current times.
- Discuss the establishment of the APTA Academy of Aquatic Physical Therapy and resources available to members.
- Identify other professional organizations supporting the use of water as a therapeutic medium
